At Manorbrook we have a keen, enthusiastic and supportive governing body. All our governors enjoy being part of the school community and are valued team members.  Below is some information on who the governors are what they do. We are always looking for new governors as there are often vacancies. Please contact the school office if you are interested.

The governing body has a number of responsibilities, the most important of these are:

·        the school budget

·        appointment of Head and Deputy Head posts

·        ensuring the national curriculum is delivered in school

All governors “link” to a specific area of the curriculum or staff responsibility. This enables them to understand an area that they may be unfamiliar with and to support the member of staff in this area.

Most of the day to day running of the school is delegated to the Head and senior management team.

Our governing body has 17 members which are taken from all areas of the school community. Each governor serves a 4 year term. It is made up from:

  • 6 parents who are proposed and elected by parents/carers of children in the school,
  • 4 staff members, the head, a teacher and a non-teacher,
  • 3 LA appointments, one delegated to the local council,
  • 4 community, co-opted by the governing body.

The governing body can also appoint associate governors who play an important part but have reduced responsibilities. Currently we have one associate governor.

We also have a clerk, who carries out the administrative duties.

The governors elect or re-elect the chair and vice-chair each year, they split into three committees; Finance/Buildings, Staffing and Curriculum/School Improvement Plan. The governing body meets every termlet, as do the sub-committees. The Chair and Head meet weekly. Full governing body meetings are open to all members of the public and parents/carers and other interested parties are always welcome.

The governing body produces a School Profile which is available to parent/carers of children at the school. This is also available on DFES ‘Parents Centre’ website and replaces the old annual report to parents.

Minutes of our meetings are displayed on the notice board at the front of the KS1 building. The governors also hold a drop-in once a term where parents/ carers can raise any concerns they have.
